Use & Care
Before first use
Wash new sheets and towels once before you use them. The first wash relaxes the weave, sets the softness and rinses out any loose lint from manufacturing — cotton always feels its best from about wash two or three onward.
Washing
- Machine wash warm or cold (up to 40°C / 104°F) on a normal cycle.
- Use a mild detergent and only about half what the bottle suggests — excess detergent builds up and dulls softness.
- Skip fabric softener and dryer sheets: they coat the fibres and, over time, make towels less absorbent.
- Wash darks and brights separately for the first couple of washes.
What to avoid
No bleach and no very hot washes — both weaken cotton fibres and can yellow whites over time. Keep sheets away from benzoyl-peroxide skincare (it bleaches fabric) and wash towels without heavy fabric conditioner so they stay thirsty.
Drying
Tumble dry on low and take items out slightly damp to reduce wrinkles, or line dry for the freshest finish. Avoid high heat, which shrinks and stiffens cotton. A wool dryer ball or two helps towels fluff up without any softener.
Keeping it soft for years
Rotate two sets so each gets a rest between washes, fold and store somewhere dry and airy, and give towels a warm wash now and then to lift out any soap residue. Treated this way, good cotton keeps getting softer rather than wearing thin.
